NMEDA: Ensuring Quality and Safety Through Training
At NMEDA, quality and safety are of utmost importance—they are the founding premise of our association as a whole. Our Quality Assurance Program (QAP), the only nationally recognized accreditation program for the adaptive mobility equipment industry, is just one way we strive to uphold these standards. In addition to QAP, the association offers trainings year-round for technicians, allied health professionals, and other mobility industry advocates to continuously allow for professional development and timely sharing of new and updated processes and technologies. As a consumer, we hope these efforts provide peace of mind and confidence in your adaptive equipment and the processes associated with acquiring and owning said equipment.
Each quarter, NMEDA hosts a three-day in-person training for our manufacturer technicians. Our Manufacturer Service School, or MSS, provides technicians with an opportunity to obtain certification on the modification of various vehicle adaptations and product installations. The trainings combine both classroom and hands-on teaching to ensure a thorough understanding of the installation process.
NMEDA also facilitates trainings for healthcare professionals, such as Certified Driver Rehabilitation Specialists (CDRS), to help them in understanding and advocating for individuals seeking automotive vehicle modification solutions. The courses also teach practitioners about the unique process involved in evaluating, selecting, and purchasing appropriate automotive adaptive equipment based on individual drivers’ physical and cognitive abilities.
Though we represent the manufacturers, dealerships, and allied health professionals in the mobility industry, we operate knowing that the ultimate end-user from our efforts is you, the consumer. We hope providing an understanding of our training efforts reiterates the importance of always selecting QAP-certified dealers and manufacturers for your adaptive equipment needs and instills confidence in your purchases and ongoing services of such equipment.
The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) is an advocate for mobility and accessibility for drivers with disabilities. If you need help with converting or buying a handicap accessible car, truck or van, please consider one of our mobility equipment dealers.
