Get Inspired with National Mobility Awareness Month Spokesperson, Mike Savicki
NMEDA has selected Mike Savicki to be the spokesperson for National Mobility Awareness Month again. Each May, we dedicate our resources to give away three wheelchair accessible vehicles and Mike’s partnership is one that truly exemplifies how NMEDA embodies the spirit of Life Moving Forward. With May and National Mobility Awareness Month coming up very soon, we wanted to pay a special tribute to Mike’s loyalty and support, as well as shine a light on how you can be a part of our Local Hero contest.
Mike Savicki and History with NMAM
Mike is a C6, 7 quadriplegic who has never let his wheelchair hold him back from leading a full, extraordinary life. He is a Navy veteran, accomplished in many sports and an avid supporter of NMEDA and NMAM. Through grit, Mike has gone on to be a medalist at the National Veterans Wheelchair Games 68 times and the only person to finish the Boston Marathon on foot and in a wheelchair—which he’s completed 18 times since 1990. Year after year, his inspiring story and dedication proves to be a powerful driver for so many other people that use wheelchairs to enter their own stories in the Local Hero contest for their chance to win a wheelchair accessible vehicle. Mike is an example of perseverance and drives a wheelchair accessible vehicle himself.
Participate in the Local Heroes Contest
Starting on April 12, you can share what makes you or your loved one a Local Hero for a chance to win one of three wheelchair accessible vehicles. Submit a 2-minute or less video or a story of 400 words or less with a picture of whom you’re nominating as the Local Hero. Once your entry is confirmed and on the site, your family, friends and community can vote for you online daily starting on May 3, 2016. You can even earn 10 extra votes by entering with your local NMEDA dealer’s unique code or 1,000 bonus votes by completing Quality Needs Assessment at the NMEDA dealership closest to you.
We’re gearing up for another successful National Mobility Awareness Month alongside our spokesperson, Mike Savicki, and looking forward to all the stories that will be entered in the Local Hero contest. We hope to see yours there.
