For 35+ years it has been the only nationally recognized accreditation program of its kind in the mobility equipment industry. In 2024 that standard expanded to cover commercial vehicle modifications.

NMEDA is the non-profit trade association representing the mobility equipment dealers, manufacturers and driver rehabilitation specialists serving the U.S. and Canada. If you’re new to NMEDA, that’s expected. We’ve spent 35+ years building the standard for the consumer mobility market. In 2026, we’re bringing that same standard into NEMT.
Alongside NEMTAC standards, not competing with them. NEMTAC accreditation and the CTS credential set the standard for how a ride is run. QAP and MQAP set the standard for the vehicle itself, how it’s built, modified, installed and maintained.
Two programs, one chain of accountability.
They cover the full lifecycle of a wheelchair accessible vehicle, from the manufacturer who builds and modifies it to the dealer who installs, services and supports it in the field. Membership is not a logo. Both are structured, audited standards that repeat on a set cycle.
For manufacturers
Manufacturer Quality Assurance Program
Built for auto mobility manufacturers. It verifies through independent, third-party review that every modified vehicle and mobility product an accredited manufacturer produces meets applicable Federal and Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, including crash test results.
Every product ships with the hardware and installation instructions required for proper installation, and technicians trained and certified by the manufacturer build and service every vehicle.

For dealers
Quality Assurance Program
Built for mobility equipment dealers. A QAP-accredited dealer is the local specialist who installs lifts, securements and mobility equipment, validates safe use through equipment training, and maintains 24/7 service availability if something goes wrong on a ride.
NMEDA reviews QAP dealers independently through annual audits and on-site evaluations. They do not self-certify. They prove they meet the standard every year to keep their accreditation.
